To have, to love, and then to part is the greatest sorrow of one’s heart.

James David Gift, 81, of Inspiration Drive, Quail Valley, Keyser, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.  He had been under the excellent and loving care of the Potomac Valley Hospice and Aging and Family Services of Keyser.

Born November 25, 1933 in Westernport, MD, he was the son of the late Elwood H. and Gladys (Iliff) Gift.

Jim was a 1951 graduate of Bruce High School.  He was a member of the Keyser Church of the Brethren.  He retired from the Machine Coating Department of Westvaco Corp with 42 years of service.  Jim was a United States Army Veteran.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was president of the Upper Potomac Rod and Gun Club for 20 years.

He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 55 years, Ruth (Fike) Gift, two brothers, Elwood Gift and wife Roslyn of Oak Ridge, TN and Paul Gift and wife Betty Lou of Westernport, MD.  He is also survived by four nephews, Andrew Gift of Denver, CO, Jonathon Gift of Nokesville, VA, Timothy Gift of Oakland, MD, and Dana Gift of Clarksville, MD, two nieces, Laura Gift of New York, and Jennifer Gift of Westernport, MD.  Also surviving is his caregiver, Louie Kitzmiller II and wife Carrie and their family, Reagan, Kaleb James, Trey and Eli.  He will be dearly missed by his special niece, Beverly Kitzmiller and husband Louie Sr. and their family of New Creek, and a special nephew, Brydon DeWitt and wife Lou and their family of Richmond, VA, Brydon Mark and wife Lisa and children, John, Mark and Caroline.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, MD on Friday, September 4th from 12 PM to 3 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday September 4th following the visitation at 3:00 PM, with Rev. Dwight Ramsey officiating.

Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Keyser Church of the Brethren, 152 South Main St, Keyser, WV  26726.
