James Clark Sr.

Barton, Maryland

James Edward Clark, 92, of Barton, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at home.

Born January 7, 1931, in Barton, he was the son of the late Edgar Franklin and Myrtle Marie (Montgomery) Clark.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Barbara Elizabeth (Burke) Clark; his son James E. Clark Jr.; his siblings Mildred MacDonald, Mervin Clark, and Thomas Clark.

Mr. Clark was a United States Army Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict.  He was Methodist by faith.  James was a 1949 graduate of Barton High School. James worked at Westvaco for 38 years until his retirement. Prior to Westvaco, he was a meat cutter at the A&P. He was a member of the Barton American Legion Post #189, the McCoole VFW and a former member of the Georges Creek Senior Citizens.  In his earlier years he enjoyed gardening and picking mushrooms and transitioned into enjoying spending Sunday evenings with his family.  He was well known for making his homemade meatballs, homemade noodles and his homemade pies and cakes.  Mr. Clark loved his family and will be missed by all.

Surviving are his three children Karen Wertz and husband John of Cumberland, Steve Clark and wife Melanie of Vandalia, OH, Scott Clark and wife Becki of LaVale; daughter-in-law Kay Clark; his sister Emily Doretha Malick and husband Adrian; twelve grandchildren Jamie Clark and wife Holly, Megan Hall and husband Brandon, Peyton Manger and husband Derek, Riley Clark, Katy Clark, Carson Clark, Johnny Wertz, Aaron Wertz, Paxton Wertz, Tanner Wertz, Dylan Clark, Delayni Clark; five great-grandchildren Landon, Kinsley, Eli, Heidi, and Jackson; special cousin whom he considered his daughter Mary Beth Bennett and husband Harry their children Brian Bennett and wife Susan, Jason Bennett and wife Brandi, Lauren and husband Tim; and their children Konner, Decklen, Brogen, Dalton, Bryson, Parker, Timmy, Sienna, Lydia; brothers-in-law, Donald Beeman, Mike Burke; sister-in-law Claire Miller; and several nieces and nephews

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John Magargee officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the James E. Clark Jr. Scholarship Fund c/o First United Bank and Trust, Piedmont, WV.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thank you to Mary Beth and Harry Bennett, the UPMC Western Maryland Hospice Staff and his hospice nurse Corrine and Dr. Crable for their wonderful care given.
