Isabel Marie (Atkinson) Amerson, 92, formerly of Westernport, went to be with the lord Tuesday evening.
Born January 31, 1919 in Bishopville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Kennedy and Bannie Atkinson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy Amerson, her brothers- Neil Atkinson, James Atkinson, and Hayward Atkinson, and one sister- Blanche Mathis.
Prior to her first marriage, she attended nurses training and was employed by various hospitals in West Virginia, but found her way home where she was employed at Lee County Hospital in Bishopville S.C. for many years and eventually retired. She was a true “angel in white” and will be remembered for her dedication to nursing and her family. An avid gardener- flowers and vegetables, she always enjoyed various crafts, especially ceramics. She was known by all for her wonderful homemade biscuits, and baked them every day.
Recently, she was a resident of Egle Nursing and Rehabilitation Home where she received excellent care by the loving and supportive staff and Moran Manor Nursing Home, previously. Dr. Harjit Sidhu, her physician gave her many years of devoted service and attention. Isabel lived in Westernport with her son Mike after she moved from South Carolina to be near her daughter more than 20 years ago.
She leaves behind two sons, Raymond Lee and wife Debbie of Spokane, Washington, and the light of her life, George “Michael” Lee of Westernport; and a devoted daughter Virginia Marie Bennett and husband, Roger of Westernport; a sister, Pearl Boyce and husband, John of Lugoff, S.C; a special nephew, Mac Atkinson and wife Judy of Bishopville, SC; and a special niece, Shelby Russell and husband, Edward of Virginia.
She was a wonderful grandmother to her 12 grandchildren; Chuck Durante and wife Emma Jean, Anne Jones, and husband, Greg, Raylene Lee, and husband Jerry Ridenhour, , Sherry Bennett and fiancé , Doug Wagner, Lori Beeman and husband Terry, Ken Bennett and wife Sharon, Tracy Smith and husband Bill, Michael Lee, Paula Lee, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great- great grandchild, a special great niece, Pam Chewning and a special nephew, Kevin Atkinson. Local great grandchildren include Lee Beeman and wife Michelle, D.J. Minnick, Ryan Beeman, Derek Bennett, Evan Bennett, Eric Smith, and Erica Bennett.
Family and friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home in Westernport on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Boal Funeral Home on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Walter Lancaster officiating.
