Hugh Frederick Paton, Sr. 89, passed from this life at home, on July 13, 2018.    Born May 14, 1929 in Franklin, he was the son of John W. Paton and Viola (Smiley) Paton. Hugh was born in the home place in Franklin and lived there all of his life.  In 1988 he and Mary built a new home next door, and their daughter moved into the home place.  The Paton family members have resided there for 114 years.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his siblings, Alexander Paton, Ethel Lease, Ameda Combs, Mary Jane Awot, William Paton, James Patton, and Betty Simpson.  He was the last surviving member of his family.  He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, in 2014, and a granddaughter, Brittany Marie Paton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hugh retired from Westvaco Luke Mill, with 42 years of service.  He kept busy working around the house, doing remodeling and lots of fixing up.  He enjoyed camping, and took the kids on an adventure every summer.  His garden kept him busy every summer, growing rhubarb, super sonic tomatoes, and lots of delicious vegetables.

He leaves behind a daughter, Mary Virginia (Gary) Fazenbaker, sons, Hugh “Fred” Jr (Jeana), all of Westernport, and Charles (Valerie) of Parkton, MD.  He was proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, Ryan Fazenbaker, Joshua (Stacy) Fazenbaker, Carrie (RJ) Thierry, Derek Paton (fiancee Karina), Casey, Charles “Alex” and Christopher Paton.  Three Step-grandchildren, Dylan, Jessica and Devin.  His 9 greatgrandchildren gave him lots of joy and laughter, Gwendolyn, Ava, Harley and Brielle, Tristan, Shayden, Brittan, Carter and Jayla.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, from 6 to 9 PM.  A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 11:00 AM at the Boal Chapel, Westernport with Rev. Gary Fazenbaker officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Potomac Fire Company, or Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, Westernport.

We want to thank you, Dad, for the loving and dedicated care you gave our Mom during the many years of her illness.  You will be in our hearts forever and always in our fondest memories.  Love, your family.
