Barton

Barton, MD

Harry Thomas McCutcheon, 99, of Moscow, Barton passed away on May 18, 2018 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born April 23, 1919, he was the son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth McCutcheon.

He is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, J. Ray McCutcheon, Olin E. McCutcheon, Velma M. Worgan, Robert S. McCutcheon, Freda Noyes, James E. McCutcheon, Charles L. McCutcheon and Ruth Nicol. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Harry is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Harry lived all 99 years of his life in one location- his home place in Moscow. His family referred to him as “Mr. Moscow”, since he was the oldest person living there. He was also called “Iron Man”, because he stayed so active at his age. He assisted in caring for the Moscow Mills Cemetery for many years. Every spring, people would report the roads “must be open” when Harry and his brother, Robert made their daily trips to the Savage River to cut grass or clean up brush. Harry was still shoveling snow, walking to his late brother’s house and the George’s Creek, as well as cutting grass at his late age. Harry worked at Westvaco until his retirement.

Harry never wanted to be cared for in a nursing facility, so members of his family cared for him in his home. His greatest caregiver, Cynthia McCutcheon, would visit with him daily and take care of all his needs.

Family and friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice.
