Gloria Matthews

Gloria Jean Matthews, 66, of Westernport, formerly of Bedford, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing, after an extensive battle with cancer.

Born April 26, 1949 in Camp Lejeune, NC, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Brumbaugh) Helsel.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Frederick G. Matthews.

Gloria formerly worked for Penn Video in X-ray before eventually retiring from Nestle/Stouffers with 30 years of service.  She was catholic by faith.

She leaves behind a brother, Monty Helsel and his late wife, Santina of Ohio, and her sisters-in-law, Nancy Flinn and her late husband, Eugene, Irene Kimmell and husband Gary, and Diane Whetzel and husband Richard.  She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Angela O’Rourke and husband Pat, Rhonda Downton and husband William “Bo”, Harry Riggleman and wife Amy, Logan Rebar and wife Stacie, and Richard Whetzel “RJ”.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, MD, on Tuesday, November 17th from 4 to 7 PM.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, November 18th at 11:00 AM, with Father Edward Hendricks officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
