Glenn Shingler

Westernport, Maryland

Glenn F. Shingler, 68, of Westernport passed away on September 16, 2022 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 5, 1954, he was the son of the late Margie (Mayhew) and Don Wilt and George Shingler, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Smith; brother-in-law, Robert Smith, Sr.; brothers, George Shingler III, Gary Shingler; father and mother-in-law, Gene and Helen Meyers; and son-in-law, Michael Bush.

Glenn was a United States Army Reserve Veteran. He retired from Westvaco, where he worked as an 8 and 9 calendar operator. Glenn was known in the Westernport community as Santa Claus in the annual Christmas parade, as well as the hot dog king. He loved cars, attending car shows and meeting with his friends at the shows and telling many stories. Glenn loved to decorate his home and yard for all of the holidays and seasons. He loved cooking and grilling for his friends and family. Glenn was a family man, they meant the world to him, he is going to be missed by everyone that knew him.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie (Meyers) Shingler; daughter, Jody Wildman and husband Mark; son, Eric Shingler and wife, Jenny; and grandchildren, Michaela Beal and husband Zach, Colton Shingler and Addison Shingler. He is also survived by his siblings, Shirley Maynard and husband Kenny, John Shingler and wife Gail, Harold Shingler and Jerry Lynn Critchley. Glenn is survived by his sister-in-law, Susan Eckard and husband Danny; brother-in-law, Richard Meyers and wife Karen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Tuesday, September 20th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 21st at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Shawn Shumaker officiating.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Burial Park, Cumberland.

Glenn’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to WVU Oncology, Kim Maynard of Mountain Laurel Medical Center and Egle Nursing and Rehab for the excellent care they provided to him during his illness.
