George Donald “Don” Brode, 81, of Grande View, Westernport, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 at his residence.

Born February 27, 1933 in Frostburg, he was the son of the late George Frederick and Mildred (Cook) Brode.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Harry Brode and a grandson and great grandson.

“Don” was retired from Westvaco Corp, with 40 years of service, having been a millright.  He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen #131, Westernport, and a social member of Kelly Mansfield American Legion #52, Piedmont, WV.

He leaves behind his wife, Shirley (Bush) Brode, his children, Gary Shears and wife Debbie of Northeast, Gregory “Gig” Shears and wife Bonnie of McConnellsburg, PA, Pattie Peck of Fort Ashby, WV, Debbie Little of Inwood, WV, Shari Bartlett and wife Tanya of Keyser, WV, Krista Price and husband Bill of Fort Ashby, WV, and Doni Hays and husband Steve of Bluemont, VA.  He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, thirty four great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, as well as a special niece, Melanie Winfield and husband David.

At Don’s request, he was cremated.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, August 29th at 2:00 PM.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home two hours prior to service from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. A Celebration of his Life will be held immediately following the memorial service at Kelly Mansfield Post 52, Piedmont, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad or the Potomac Fire Company.
