Francis Michael “Sket” Gardine, 85, formerly of Greene St, Westernport, and most recently of Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the nursing center.

Born December 3, 1927 in Westernport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jane Rose (Patrone) Gardine.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, George W. Gardine, two infant brothers, James and Joseph Gardine, and special friends, Mildred Flick and Mary “Mike” Kiddy.

“Sket” was a United States Naval Veteran, having served during World War 2.  He retired from the CSX Railroad System with 40 years of service, having been a Carman.  He was 60 year member and former Chief of the Potomac Fire Company #2, Westernport.  He was also a member of the Railroad Carman Association, and a catholic by faith.  “Sket” had a love of animals and supported many animal rescues.

He leaves behind three sisters, Mary Gattens of the Kensington, Cumberland, Margaret Brinegar and husband Tom of Westernport, Sara Jane Fazzalore and husband Sam of Keyser, WV, a special niece and caregiver, Melinda Youngblood and husband Kevin and his other nephews and nieces, Jim Haggerty, Richard Brinegar, Janine Bradley, Anthony Fazzalore, and Marla Fazzalore.  He is also survived by a special friend, Bertie Schramm, and his special cat “Babe”.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  The Potomac Fire Company will hold a memorial service on Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11:00 AM.

Pallbearers will be members of the Potomac Fire Company #2, with honorary pallbearers Tom Brinegar, Tim Dayton, and Bill Kight Jr.

Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Westernport.
