Edward "Ed" Robertson

January 8, 1932 — May 7, 2017

Barton

Barton, MD

Edward Howell “Ed” Robertson, 85, passed from his life to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his residence.

Born in Barton on January 8, 1932 to his beloved parents, the late Lillian (Howell) and Edward Robertson. Ed was their only child and he was a blessing to his parents, he was truly the apple of their eye.

Ed graduated from Barton High School in 1950. He attended Frostburg State College for a time, but determined his talents and desires were more inclined to the trade unions. His training in the electrical field began with the B&O Railroad and continued until he was a certified electrician. He continued this work with the Celanese Corporation, PPG Industries until their closures, and at ABL until their downswing. He was an electrician at the Westvaco Corporation where he worked until his retirement in 1994. Over the years, Ed did free electrical work for many friends and neighbors, the Barton Athletic Association, The Barton United Methodist Church, as well as many others. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand. Ed was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in France from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of the IBEW, a long time member of the Barton United Methodist Church, as well as a former member of the Barton Fire Company.

Ed enjoyed his hobbies, reading and woodworking. His woodworking was quite unique. He made wooden crosses, which turned into a Christian ministry for family, friends and neighbors. He made the crosses to wear as a necklace as well as freestanding ones in various sizes. Many were made from salvaged wood from old homes in Barton. He lovingly and skillfully fashioned the crosses and presented them as gifts to people he knew.

Ed’s last few years were spent at his beloved home in Barton, with the help of his dear friend and caregiver, Sherry Shaw and her husband, Brian. His cousins, Dixie and Bob Weaver, Glenn Howell, Betty Howell, Mame Ward, and his old friend, Charlie Metz also gave a helping hand and showed him kindness over the years. He is also survived by his former wife, Peggy (Durst) Robertson, who he married in 1956 and were together for 51 years, they remained friends over the years and talked often.

Family and friends may attend Ed’s funeral service on Wednesday, May 10th at the Barton United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Pastor Carl “Sandy” Cowan officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills, alongside his Mom and Dad.

Those who wish, may direct memorial contributions to the Barton United Methodist Church, or the Union Rescue Mission in Cumberland.

Boal Funeral Home P.A., Barton assisted Ed’s family with funeral arrangements.

“Do what is right and do what is good and help others. The world can always use one more kind person and if you can, take it one step further by helping and showing kindness to the people of Ed’s age.”
