Edna C. “Dowell” Kooken, 96, of Bloomington, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Lions Center, Cumberland, where she had been a resident.
Born November 18, 1918 along with her late twin sister, Eva “Murph” Warnick Rosier, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Eva (Warnick) McDowell. Edna will be reunited again with her late husband of 72 years, Kenneth Kooken, her sisters, Eleanor Arnold, Eva “Murph” Warnick Rosier, and her brothers, Donald and George McDowell. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
“Dowell” was a homemaker. She was well known for baking bread weekly and distributing it to her friends in Bloomington. She had worked in several restaurants and also Westvaco Paper during her husband’s tour in the Navy during World War II. She was a member of Bloomington United Methodist Church, where she attended her entire life. She was a charter member of Bloomington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars. “Dowell” and her husband also entertained at area nursing homes for 40 plus years.
She leaves behind a son, Tom Kooken and wife Mary Jon of Winchester, VA, a daughter, Janet Fazenbaker and husband John of Bridgeville, DE, seven grandchildren, Michael Kooken, Kurtis Kooken and wife Lorie, Edward Fazenbaker, Daniel Fazenbaker and wife Donna, Patricia Wimer and husband Bill, Christopher Fazenbaker and wife Kelly, David Fazenbaker and wife Rachel, fifteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday from 11 AM to 1 PM, with a funeral service to follow the visitation at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Gary Rankin officiating.
Interment will be in Queens Point Cemetery, Keyser, WV.
