Dorothy Lee Whetzel

August 14, 1934 — July 15, 2023

Dorothy Lee (Reno) Whetzel, 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 14, 1934, in Westernport. She was the daughter of the late James Reno and Mary (Davey) Reno. Dorothy lost her mother at a young age and was raised by her late sister, Elva (Reno) Baer. She is also proceeded in death by her daughter, Sherry Whetzel, sister Norma (Reno) Billings and brothers, James and Frank Reno, and Joe Debona, and Brother-In- Law, Carl Baer.

Dorothy was a homemaker and raised 6 children.

She was Past President of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #17 in Edgewood, MD. She was the most loving and caring mother and grandmother that we could have asked for. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with her family. She loved to play cards and sit on her front porch. She was a great cook. She made the best homemade bread, spaghetti and meatballs and chocolate pies. She always made a chocolate cake with chocolate icing for her grandchildren's birthday. She has instilled a lot of her greatness in each of her children and grandchildren so her memory will live on.

Dorothy is survived by her children; daughters Debbie Preston and husband Bill, Elva (Whetzel) Zais, and Mary Whetzel and husband Bob; two sons Bobby Whetzel and Carl Whetzel.

She is also survived by her sister, Mary Carle, grandchildren, Keith, Kevin, Heather, Deborah, Carey, Kristi, Mark, who she raised, Kevin, Robert, Carl Jr., Ryan, Ashley, David, Kimberly and 14 great grandchildren.

The family will hold a private Celebration of Life on August 13, 2023, at Danville Covenant Brethren Church with granddaughter and Chaplain, Kristi Williams officiating.
