Dorothy Grove, 90, of Green St, Westernport, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.

Born January 14, 1925 in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Ray.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry “Mike” Grove in 1997, her brothers, Fred Rebar, James, George, Donald and Paul Ray, her sisters, Margaret Winkler, Helen Bozman, Lillian Lee, and Mary Ray.  Also preceding her in death was a sister-in-law, Florence Grove, and brother-in-laws, Tommy and Ronald Grove.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Harry James Grove “Jim”, who has also been her “best buddy” the last several years being her primary caretaker.  She is also survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Leatherman and husband Rodney and granddaughters, Megan and Lauren Leatherman, all of whom helped in her caretaking.  She is survived by a sister, Violet Grove of Westernport, and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was the most wonderful wife, mother and nana anyone could have ever asked for.  Her granddaughters were the joys of her life from the day each were born.  She loved them with all her heart.  Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Westernport for most of her life.  She loved her church family and enjoyed being with them each week until health issues prevented it.  She never forgot them.

Dorothy was employed for 44 years at Westvaco working the majority of her career side by side with her husband in the cutter room until the last several years when she worked in the finishing room.  Dorothy loved to cook, can and “wash dishes” for her family.  She loved spending time with them and never missed a day checking on them.

Two other special children in her life were Matt and Andrea Devens, who she referred to as her first grandchildren.  Dorothy struggled with her health the last several years.  She fought a good fight and now has won the race.  She was dearly loved and missed by all who knew her.

Special thanks for the wonderful care received during her stays at Egle Nursing Center and for the special care recently at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday, May 12th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, May 13th at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Earl Williams officiating.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, WV.
