Darius Lorraine Green

Darius Lorraine Green, 100, of Barton passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the Egle House Memory Care Assisted Living. 

Born on Dec 2, 1922, he was the son of the late Ira and Elizabeth Green. Darius was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Ella Lee.   He is the last remaining member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Ellsworth and Robert, and two sisters, Lois and Bonnie Lee. 

Darius graduated from Barton High School. He worked at Westvaco for over 40 years, retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor on No. 8 & 9 paper machines.  He was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church and also a member of the Barton American Legion Post #189.

Darius was a veteran of WWII, proudly serving in the 39^th Field Hospital in England and France. For many years, Darius and Ella Lee enjoyed traveling the country to annual reunions of the 39^th Field Hospital and reminiscing with his friends from his time in the service.

Darius is survived by two sons, Paul and his wife Yvonne of Bethlehem, PA, and Robert and his wife Reggie of Algonquin, IL.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Brian and wife Charity of Highlands Ranch, CO, Deron and wife Marianne of Montville, NJ, Allison of Chicago, IL and Jason of Louisville, KY.  He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Jack Darius, Ella, and Liam of Montville, NJ and Santiago of Highlands Ranch, CO. 

Darius was an accomplished outdoorsmen and especially loved hunting grouse and picking mushrooms.  In his later years, Darius became an expert on genealogy and investigating the Green family history.  Darius spent his retirement years following the sporting events and school activities of his grandchildren, which brought him great joy.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Gayle Durst and all the staff at the Egle House for the special care he received there the last three years and to his Barton neighbors who watched over him after his wife passed.  Although Darius had some tough times over the past three years, the visits from family and friends, and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, brought him much joy and momentary clarity. 

Family and friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Friday Oct 27, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at 12:00 noon with Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be directed to the Barton United Methodist Church or the Burlington United Methodist Family Services, Burlington WV.
