Charles Leo “Chuck” Ward, 67, of Maryland Highway, Swanton, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 16, 1948 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late George and Frances (Wilson) Ward.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ward Georg.

“Chuck” was a 1966 graduate of Bruce High School.  He was a United States Marine Corp. veteran, having served his country during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received during that time.  He retired from Mead-Westvaco Corp, with 40 years of service.  He was a member of Deer Park V.F.W., and was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his dogs.  He also attended the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church.

He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Wanda (Sweitzer) Ward, a son, Charles Scott Ward and special friend, Shelby Lynn Webb and daughter Erika Lynn Webb of Swanton, two grandsons, Eli Frederick Ward of Swanton, Gunnar Charles Ward of Oakland, a granddaughter, Andie Nicole Ward of Oakland, a niece, Terri Rodeheaver, a nephew, David Georg and two great nephews and two great nieces.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, July 18th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Sunday, July 19th at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Carl Lee officiating.

Interment will be in George Cemetery, Swanton, with military honors accorded at graveside by Vietnam Veterans Chapter #172.
