Charles Alkire

Charles Edgar Alkire, 92, of McKinley St, Westernport, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, WV.

Born November 7, 1924 in Piedmont, WV, he was the son of the late Edgar R. and Belle (Stuby) Alkire.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ann (Grove) Alkire, two brothers, Robert and Donald Alkire, a sister, Betty Jean (Alkire) Patton, three brothers-in-law, Alex Patton, Darrell Harrison, Warren Mann, a sister-in-law, Elaine (Grove) Harrison, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anderson and Fanny (Wilt) Grove and two nephews, Robby Grove and Ken Alkire.

Mr. Alkire graduated in 1942 from Piedmont High School.  He was a United States Naval Veteran, having served during World War II.  He retired from Westvaco Corp, having been an electrician.  Charles was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, WV, a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport, and a member of Queens Point V.F.W. #6775, McCoole.

He leaves behind a daughter, Margaret E. “Penny” Alkire of Westernport, a brother, William Odie Alkire and wife Jean of Cumberland, a sister, Margaret Rosier and husband Dick of Piedmont, WV, a sister-in-law, Marian Alkire of Lonaconing, a brother-in-law, Robert Grove of Hagerstown and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday, August 27th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Jones St, Piedmont, WV, on Monday, August 28th at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Steve Grimes and Rev. Brenda Shreve officiating.

Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
