Betty Jean Smith, 93, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Born August 9, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Nettie (Feaster) and Marvin Marple, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. “Shorty” Smith, Sr.; her sons, Lester “Tee Hee” Smith, David Smith, and Richard “Pug” Smith; an infant daughter; grandson, Shawn Smith; granddaughter, Whitney Smith; and her siblings, Donna Marple, Marvin “Junior” Marple, Gennalee Broadwater, and William Marple.
Betty is survived by her sons, Charles “Butch” Smith, Jr. and wife Darlene of Westernport, and Gary “Bunk” Smith of Keyser. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Josh Smith, Jodi Fazenbaker, Justin Smith, Derek King, Jessi Coffman, Morgan Bevers, Tandi Vogel, Amy Smith, Scott Smith, and Cory Smith; numerous great grandchildren; and daughters-in-law, Pam Smith and Cassandra Campbell.
Betty found great joy in spending time with her family, especially the time spent with her grandchildren. She was a familiar face in the community as a school crossing guard and as a waitress for many years, where she formed lasting relationships with her customers. Her love for family cookouts and gatherings brought much happiness to her life. Betty leaves behind cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of her loved ones and all who were fortunate to call her a friend.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Tuesday, August 20th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating.
Interment will be at Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, WV.
