Armeda "Gertie" Custer

Armeda Gertrude “Gertie” Custer, 92, of Barton passed away on November 27, 2022.

Born February 1, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Whetzel and Ethel (Trenum) Whetzel Wilson Kohne. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Custer; son, Roger Custer; daughter, Kathy Gammon; siblings, Bob, Dick, Albert, James, Beaunnis and Myrtle; and son-in-law, Dallas Ours.

Gertie was a member of the Barton Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary for 60 years. She proudly held the President position in the auxiliary for over 40 years. Gertie was an avid Bingo player and would attend as often as she could. Gertie enjoyed baking and canning until her health wouldn’t allow it.

Gertie is survived by her son, Thomas “Butch” Custer and wife Peggy of Westernport; daughter, Gloria Ours of Barton; siblings, Mary, Sarah, Alfretta, Paul and Lawrence; eleven grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 22 great-great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton on Wednesday, November 30th from 3 to 5 p.m.

A funeral service will follow the visitation at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Thomas Morgan officiating.
