Allen B. "Chick" Crites, 84, of Backbone Mountain and most recently of Westernport, Maryland, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at home following an extended illness.

Born Jan. 11, 1930, in Luke, Md., he was the son of the late Luther Crites and Mary (Fisher) Crites of Luke.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Beavers) Crites, and a brother, "Nip" Crites.
A Navy veteran, Mr. Crites was a retired electrician from the Westvaco Corporation's Luke Mill.
He loved tinkering with electronics and building things in his workshop in the basement of his Backbone Mountain home, and was a kind and giving man who was always eager to help any friend or neighbor who might benefit from his talents in those areas. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed telling stories about his younger days enjoying those activities. His greatest joy, however, was found in the many mission trips he took over the years to Haiti, where he would enjoy sharing candy and gum with the children and helped spread the word of God's love to the Haitians.

Surviving are his sister, Helen Fazenbaker, formerly of Westernport and currently living in Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 13, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport.
A funeral service will follow visitation at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gloria George, a very dear friend, officiating.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
