Richard Kenneth Duckworth, 95 of Luke, MD, passed away Wednesday December 11, 2019, at his son’s home in Hagerstown, MD, surrounded by his family.
Born on August 4, 1924, in Luke, MD, he was the older of two children of the late Edward and Catherine (Raley) Duckworth. Richard was a 1942 graduate of Bruce High School. He enlisted in the US Navy and graduated from the Aviation Machinist school at the Naval Air Training Center in Jacksonville, FL and was promoted to Seaman First Class during World War II. After the war, he came home to Luke and worked as an electrician for Westvaco for 45 years, retiring in April 1990. Richard, known to many as, Ducky, was a longtime member of the Westernport American Legion Post # 155, the IBEW Electrical Union, the Maryland Terrapin Club, and the Piedmont Presbyterian Church. An avid sports fan, he loved watching all Maryland Terrapin sports, along with the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles. Ducky was an active member in the former El Fidel Club and enjoyed dancing to big band music with his late wife.
In addition to his parents, Edward and Catherine Duckworth, he is preceded in death by his brother, James (Ethel) Duckworth and his loving wife of 66 years, Anna Louise (Eichhorn) Duckworth.
Richard is survived by his son John Duckworth and his wife Tina of Hagerstown, MD, and daughter Diane Duckworth Dean of Palmyra, VA. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Megan (Andy) Williams and Sarah (fiancé, Garrett Brenk) Duckworth; and grandsons, Sean, Jake and Christopher Dean.
The family will receive friends and family at the Boal Funeral Home, 111 Church Street, Westernport, MD 21562, on Sunday, December 15th from 3 to 6 p.m. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Monday, December 16th in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Forbes officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Interment will immediately follow at Frostburg Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad or the Piedmont Presbyterian Church.
