George Luther Shingler III, 60, of Poplar St, Westernport, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at his residence. Born February 8, 1959 in Keyser, WV, he was the son of Martha “Marty” (Magruder) Shingler of Westernport, and the late George L. Shingler Jr. He was preceded in death by his father, his brothers, Gary and Robert, and his grandfather and grandmother, “Peanie” Combs and Geraldine Magruder.
George was a 1977 graduate of Keyser High School. He was Superintendent of the Town of Westernport Water Department. George was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, WV, a member of Tri-Towns Fire Company #1, and a member of Black Hawk Tribe #131 Loyal Order of Redmen. He enjoyed going to his camp on the river and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate Baseball and Washington Redskin Football fan. George was a Civil War buff and always had an interest in the Kennedy Space Program. He was also known for his knowledge of crossword puzzles.
In addition to his mother, “Marty”, he leaves behind his wife, Nancy (Moore) Shingler, two daughters, Sarah Shingler at home, Stacey Newcome, two step sons, Jeremiah Hans and wife Cristen of McCoole and Tyler Moore and wife Amanda of Fairmont, WV. He is also survived by his brothers, Harold Shingler, John Shingler and wife Gail, Glenn Shingler and wife Bonnie, all of Westernport, a sister, Jerry Lynn Critchley and husband Bryan of Danese, WV, his grandchildren, Austin Newcome, Michael Hans and Jaxon Moore, and his pet, Brownie.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday July 6th from 12 to 2 PM. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM in the funeral home on Saturday July 6th, with Rev. David Cowan officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
